South Africa and Zimbabwe

I’m so grateful for another photography job in Africa! The trip began in Cape Town, South Africa. The city is hugged by the Atlantic Ocean on one side and dominated by the unmistakable flat-topped Table Mountain on the other. Fantastic food and excellent customer service sure makes it a pleasure to visit this town!!

Another important landmark and part of the history of Cape Town is Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. It was a short ferry ride over to the island and an incredible tour of the island, first on a bus, then from a former prisoner to see the inside of the prison.

The next couple of days featured two memorable excursions from Cape Town—first to Boulders Beach and the dramatic coastline of the Cape of Good Hope, and then to the picturesque wine town of Stellenbosch and the Tokara Winery.

The journey continued with a flight to the northeastern corner of South Africa, where the remarkable 250-square-mile Sabi Sand Nature Reserve borders Kruger National Park and feels like stepping back in time.

From lions to leopards and wild dogs and so much more, the wildlife spotting was incredible and abundant!!

From the safari, we flew up to Zimbabwe to visit Victoria Falls and take a boat ride on the famous Zambezi River into Zambia. Victoria Falls is one of the world’s largest waterfalls and is known for the world’s largest sheet of falling water!

A personal highlight was visiting Victoria Falls’ famous baobab. Called ‘The Big Tree’ – it’s between 1,000 and 1,500 years old!

Thankful for another wonderful trip planned by Carousel Travel!
