This falls in the ‘dream job’ category! Fancy hotels, spectacular views, delicious food, and plenty of photo ops! The journey began in Lausanne, Switzerland on Lake Geneva at the historic and luxurious Beau-Rivage Palace:
From Lausanne, we had day trips to the countryside, visiting the historic towns of Gruyeres, Gstaad and Montreaux, Switzerland, and even a morning boat trip to Evian, France:
A highlight of the beginning of the trip was a visit to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, the resort region between France, Switzerland, and Italy. Nestled at the foot of Mont Blanc, the Alps’ tallest peak, it is celebrated for its exceptional skiing:
After visiting Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, the group headed to the heart of Interlaken and the fantastic Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel:
Interlaken straddles the lakes Thun and Brienz and is surrounded by some of the most mind-blowing scenery in the world. A short drive away from the hotel provided a fun trip to Schilthorn in the Bernese Alps and film location for the James bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service“.
We didn’t stay at the Giessbach Grandhotel, but the visit for a dinner was spectacular!
The 14th-century medieval wooden bridge in the lakeside village of Lucerne was very photogenic…as well as a solemn lion monument for fallen Swiss guards:
If there was a spot to descibe as a ‘do not miss’ in this region, it would definitely be Jungfraujoch! The panoramic views of glaciers and peaks, walkways surrounded by ice sculptures and a scenic train ride…this trip was spectacular.
The rest of the trip took place in the heavenly lake haven of Lake Como, Italy. The group stayed at the understandably world-renowned luxurious Villa D’Este. Some places become so famous that it’s hard to live up to the hype…not Villa D’Este, it’s really special!
Although it would be easy to understand why a person wouldn’t leave the hotel, it was fun to take boat trips to visit nearby lakeside towns Como and Bellagio:
Thanks Carousel Travel for the spectacular trip!
