Known for it’s incredible food and music, I was excited to visit New Orleans for the first time! It’s definitely a gorgeous town with a lot of character, but beware to avoid the high crime areas. Some of my favorite sights around the area:
The historic homes on St. Charles Avenue are incredible! Known as the “Wedding Cake” house and constructed in 1896, its an example of Colonial Revival style of architecture:
A true highlight of New Orleans is the National WWII Museum!! I would recommend this stop to everyone, especially to see the informative and powerful movie “Beyond All Boundaries” (produced and narrated by Tom Hanks). The movie was spectacular and the venue made for a perfect backdrop for an evening dinner and gala:
I wanted to share this portrait and the story of Mr. Robert Jones. He served 23 years in prison for crimes he didn’t commit. It took 7 years of working on the case by the Innocence Project New Orleans. It’s hard to imagine how to get past the anger, frustration, time lost…etc. It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Jones and I admire that he advocates for the Innocence Project and how he shares his story. Perhaps the most shocking and sad element is that the Angola State Prison in Louisiana is on a ‘plantation’ and to this day, among other crops, prisoners pick cotton for 2 cents an hour…
