It was an honor and incredible opportunity of photographing (and listening) to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama during two teaching seminars at the University of Colorado in Boulder. The first session, “Eight Verses of the Mind” was sponsored by the Tibetan Association of Colorado and when the Dalai Lama came on stage he made a great point to be personable, wave at the children and make eye contact with all he could. It was instantly clear that he is personable, kind and welcoming. The mayor of Boulder (Suzanne Jones) presented him with a bicycle jersey and helmet and the Dalai Lama put the helmet on and said, “…thank you, it’s protection and armor while on the journey…”
One interesting concept he talked about was that it is impossible to define (or appreciate or live in..) the present, because as soon as you comprehend that it’s the present, it’s already the past…
The messages of kindness, peace, educating yourself, becoming a better version of yourself…are universal concepts. They transcend religion and politics and seem to just make sense! I enjoyed this opportunity immensely!
